Max the Golden Retriever Visits a Canine Performance Event

… sniff…. Sniff…. What is that smell? Sniff… sniff…. Oh.. it smells so good…. Could it be? Is it possible that my people are already getting ready for the Thanksgiving meal?
Sniff, sniff…. Oh, I so hope this year we have roasted Squirrel… every year I beg and beg… I shake-a-paw… I sit, I’m a good boy… anything I can do to get them to cook roasted squirrel… but every year it’s just turkey. I’m not complaining though… that boy always seems to drop some turkey near me… I wonder if he does it on purpose? I hope he drops some of that pumpkin pie again too! Last year he left his plate on the coffee table with a whole piece of pie on it… all I can say is that the pie (nor I) were anywhere to be seen when he came back for it… Slurp… Slurp…
… Speaking of doing tricks…. I sure had fun at that People Agility thing I went to a couple of weeks ago… I think they call it ‘Canine Performance Events’ but I am absolutely sure it is all about people doing tricks…
… have you ever been to one of these things? No? Well, let me tell you how it works… I admit I had never been to one of these so I didn’t know exactly what to expect… but as the day went on I figured out what was going on… the cool thing is that there were lots and lots of other dogs there… I have not sniffed that much new dog butt since I went to DogFest. …Tis the season to be wagging … wag, wag, wag, wag, wag, wag, wag, wag, wag …
…Chasing squirrels and little kitties… wag, wag, wag, wag, wag, wag, wag, wag, wag …
…Go and fetch some tennis balls now … wag, wag, wag, wag, wag, wag, wag, wag, wag …
… ahhh, it’s time to Celebrate the Season! … it’s also time to begin thinking about all the great things we have in our lives… like tennis balls, squeaky toys and squirrels to chase… and, most importantly, a home with people who love us…
Unfortunately, for lots and lots of dogs and cats the Season is just another time to wish they had a home… it’s sad, but the reality is that right now are as many as 8 Million homeless pets looking for a home in our country…
The problem is so extensive that as many as 4 million orphaned dogs and cats will be euthanized this year due to shelter overcrowding and lack of awareness about these homeless pets… sure makes me appreciate the life I lead… (and I guessing the life most of my blog friends lead…)
… but (Wag! Wag!) there is a way that I and all my friends can help this Holiday season… Iams (you know, the pet food people) is celebrating its 10th anniversary of Iams Home 4 the Holidays.
This program is supported by 1000’s of animal organizations worldwide who are dedicated to helping place orphaned dogs and cats into happy, loving homes. This year Iams Home 4 the Holidays hopes to place 1 million orphaned animals into homes this holiday season… that’s a lot of squirrels that better look out! [Editor's Note: I was going thru some of Max's old posts and wondered how many dogs and people have never seen some of his 'older' stuff. I'm guessing it's quite a few since we have so many new friends. With that in mind I thought I'd put a short re-run into the mix (it's not blog sweep weeks yet...). This is still one of my favorite adventures. It's also where Max first introduced his friend Molly. Hope you enjoy! ]
Max the Golden Retriever Visits the Vet (original air date: January 25, 2008)
What?? Where did the poodle go… The grass is all gone… what’s happenning… Oh I’m awake again.
What are they doing… is that…. could it be…. yes… it’s the LEASHHHHHHH!!!!! Time to go outside, time to go outside …. jump, jump, wag, wag, wag, circle, circle, circle…. okay… you can do it…. sit, sit, sit……. can’t do it have to circle, happy, happy, okay…. sit, sit, whew. Doors Open…. run, run, run… STOP…. man I hate when I hit the end of that leash… Continue reading ‘A Max the Golden Retriever Post Re-Run’
Fellow canines and companions, it is my duty to inform you that none of the Canine Party 2008 candidates were able to gather enough Electoral votes on November 4th to defeat the Donkey and Elephant party candidates. As a result, the Donkey candidate and human person, Senator Barack H. Obama, will become the next President of the United States.
I have personally sent President-Elect Obama an email offering our congratulations and our willingness to reach a paw across the species aisle to help bring about REAL change during his term and beyond.
Reports from the various Canine Party 2008 campaigns indicate that, in the true canine spirit, all Canine candidates are taking the loss in stride and have decided just to Keep On Wagging!.
Djembe the Dog was reported to have peed on an Obama\Biden 2008 poster on the corner near his home, but all indications are that it was not a personal attack on the President-Elect nor a comment on the election’s outcome. Rather, it appears he just smelled another dog’s scent and well… a dog’s gotta do what a dog’s gotta do. Continue reading ‘Canine Party 2008 Concedes the US Presidental Race’
