Can you spot the Golden Retriever in this picture?
Final day Grand Entry at the 2009 Golden Retriever Club of America’s National Specialty dog show in Enid, OK.
Keep On Wagging! was fortunate to attend the event held this year in Enid, OK. The annual event brings the best Golden Retrievers from around the US (and 9 other countries this year) to compete in Conformation, Rally, Obedience and Agility events. Events earlier in the week included outdoor competitions such as Field Trials and Tracking.
This year’s National had almost 800 golden retrievers entered and as you can see from the photo above, it was hard to look in any direction without seeing a Golden Retriever. The show was full of fun for attendees and visitors.
If you couldn’t make the trip, don’t worry. The event is held annually and moves around the country. In 2010 the event will be held in Greeley, CO and sponsored by the Mile Hi Golden Retriever Club. Then in 2011 the event moves back East and will be held in Perry, GA (our favorite place for dog shows) and will be sponsored by the Atlanta Golden Retriever Club.
If you’re a Golden lover (and who isn’t?) this is an event you definitely want to make an effort to see.
We met some great folks from the Arizona Golden Rescue during the event. Here is a performance of “Who Let the Dogs Out” by some Goldens looking for a home.
Here’s a video of the Grand Entry. All the Golden Retrievers in attendance joined in a parade into the show ring. The picture at the top of this post is the culmination of this parade.
This year’s event theme “Go Native” was highlighted by visits from local Oklahoma Native Americans would gave talks, demonstrations and performances for attendees throughout the event. My favorite event was the final day’s performance of the National Anthem performed in native language.
A huge authentic Native American teepee was erected in the main show building.
And lastly, if you’ve never been to Oklahoma here’s a picture that sort of sums up a drive through Oklahoma on I-35 (southbound).
Oh, yeah, and of course I have to plug the MOST POPULAR item available at the Golden National… Keep On Wagging!

we hope you don’t mind being featured. If so we can remove the post. We are from Enid and are proud the event was held here.
Thanks for the link and for the great hospitality we were shown by Enid. I have to admit that I’d never heard of Enid before the show, but I’ll definitely never forget the week I spent there.
