It was great to meet some of Max’s blog friends at the Hilton Head Island Kennel Club Dog Show. Max couldn’t make the show himself but he asked me to take some pictures for him.
Here of some of the show’s “Best Of Moments”

Here’s a shot of one of the great Golden Moments during the Dog Show. The show Superintendent considered ending the show after this event. He was overheard saying “Seriously, how could the show go anywhere but downhill after that Golden moment?” Fortunately there was more Golden to come so he allowed the show to continue. |

“TAKE ME TO YOUR LEADER, EARTHLING DOG!” |
 |
This was a little shot of Golden Retriever heaven… These Goldens were waiting for their turn in the Best of Breed Ring. After witnessing this scene three Dog owners (no-Golden of course) quickly withdrew from the competition, acknowledging they had no chance to compete against this much Golden. They clearly made the right choice… |
 |
It’s a little discussed fact that many show dogs, including Goldens (gulp) become homeless following dog shows. Dogs that do not earn titles or top prizes at these shows are often abandoned by their disappointed owners. This is one of the many Doggie Refugee Camps set up by the kind folks at the Hilton Head Island Kennel Club. |

Believe it or not even the “professional” dogs like this Dalmatian sometimes poop in ‘inappropriate’ places. This means Dog Handlers spend long hours training for the inevitable pooping event.
Here you may recognize Edward Pooperscooper demonstrating his patented “hand in the bag and scoop the poop” maneuver. This highly effective poop scooping method is used by pro and amateur dog handlers across the globe. Thanks Mr. Pooperscooper! |

This is soooooo boring… when are there going to be more Goldens in the ring?
Anybody got a Frisbee we can use? |
 |
Second item from the bottom… “Hotdog——$2.00″ Seriously, Hotdogs? …at a dog show? Is there no humanity? No sensitivity? … chickens, cows, turkeys, and what ever animal a ‘Danish’ is I understand… but hotdogs?
Seriously, though, they were good with a little mustard and relish. I ate mine around back so the other dogs couldn’t see me. I hope it wasn’t a relative of a dog at the show. |
 |
This was a moment from the Obedience Trials. Here you see the male handler (on the left) is having a tough time getting into the proper “Kneel” position. It’s not as easy as it may look.
Hopefully the dog won’t be harassed by the other dogs about his handler’s poor showing this year. Better luck next year, Sir! |

What the…? What’s going on back there lady? Hey, I don’t even know your name… You’re at least going to have to buy me dinner first.

As expected, no Golden Retrievers could be found anywhere near the Obedience trial ring. Early in the show one Golden was tricked into entering but refused to retrieve. It was later learned that the 18 month old bitch refused to retrieve because the judge would not substitute a tennis ball for the trial.
We’re with ya Golden girl. |
 |
This was clearly one of the saddest moments at the Dog Show.
Somewhere there is a very, very, very sad Golden Retriever. Tennis ball, oh tennis ball… wherefore art thou oh tennis ball? |

“Nothing But Butts at the Hilton Head Island Kennel Club Dog Show.” Isn’t it a shame? All those butts and not a single tail to wag. |
Show dogs abandoned after a show?? Hmm. I’ve been showing dogs for over 25 years, and have never heard of that one.
Looks like you had fun at the show, tho. They are a pretty exciting place to hang out, even if you aren’t a participant.

Hi there !
I frequently come to read your blog and I must say to take a few laughs with it.
But this description of the dog show … come on, no one abandon dogs even if they don’t win. I never saw it and I do go to many dog shows.
I know you weren’t serious about that, but …
Best regards !
