Max the Golden Retriever Visits the Beach
Published by Max July 21st, 2008… sniff…. Sniff…. What is that smell? I don’t recognize it…. Sniff, sniff….. smells like coconut? Maybe I’m having coconuts for dinner… better check my food bowl…. Sniff… nope…. Same old chunks of food … man oh man…. Where is that coconut smell coming from…. Sniff…. Snifff…
Ah, hah! Found it….. it’s the boy… sniff.. and the man…. And the woman too?…. Weird… are my people turning into fruit? I know they act kind of fruity but if they turn into fruit what will happen to me? I mean, can a cocunut get treats from that jar in the pantry? Who’ll throw the tennis ball? This could be a seriously troubling development…. I mean coconuts are too big for me to carry around… maybe if they turned into apples… yeah, apples would be good…. About the size of a tennis ball… I could even carry all three of them around at the same time… but coconuts? I’ll have to keep a close watch on them… if I see them starting to turn brown I’ll know there is trouble coming….
… What a minute…. Is the boy getting my leash? YESSSS!!!!! Circle, circle, jump, jump….. outside time!!!! Oh, boy…. Maybe it’s time to find a new lake…. I mean, I haven’t been to the lake since we moved to this new doghouse… yeah, I know the people call it a people house, but since I live here I say it’s a dog house…. Besides… who took the time to mark a couple spots on the carpet when we moved into it? … I mean the boy dumped some of that bright red water he drinks on the floor, but the smell didn’t have nearly the staying power of MY marking… and the yard is definitely a dog yard… I’ve been sure to mark it everywhere…. I’ve only got a couple of spots left before I will have covered every spot in the yard…. I haven’t smelled any dogs in my yard yet, but when I do, they will definitely know they’re in MY yard….
I hope they still remember how to get to the lake…. It seems like we drove pretty far from the lake the day we moved…. Into the truck… sniff, sniff…. Hey what’s this stuff in the back of the truck with me? Don’t they know the back of the truck is my space? What’s with the chairs and blankets? Hey, they smell a little like coconuts too…. Maybe I’m coming down with something…. I think Chiquillo once mentioned smelling coconut…. Oh, yeah, that was from that new bath stuff his people used… Maybe I shouldn’t have given him such a hard time about smelling like a girl… But there are some other smells back here too…. Kind of fishy? And… lick…. lick…. Yuck.. salty… huhhhh…
Hey, this doesn’t look like the road to the lake… and look at those weird trees… all the pointy leaves…. They sure don’t look soft like the leaves from the trees in my old yard…. What did the boy say? Palmetto trees…. Hum…. Maybe the people found a new lake… I hope it has ducks and squirrels like the old one…. Good thing is that I don’t think the squirrels will be able to climb these funny looking trees….. I’ll bet that squirrel I chased up a tree at the nature park is still up there… that’ll teach him to flick his tail in front of me…. Sure, he was faster then me…. And sure he could climb trees but I still gave him a run for his money…..
Oh, boy… we’re stopping… sniff… sniff…. This REALLY doesn’t smell like the lake….. sniff…. Snifff… okay, out of the truck… WHOAHHHHH! Check out this dirt. …It feels so soft and silky under my paws…. And it’s white… Very different from the dirt at our old lake… and what are these rocks? They don’t look like they’d be very good for chewing… they sure are colorful though and smooth though… oh… the man said those are shells and the dirt is sand…… what a minute…. Sand, shells…. I must be at the BEACH! Yippee!!! Look out beach squirrels and ducks here I come…. Time to explore…
… Keep on Wagging!

…Dude… your tongue is as big as a windsail in your pic! You must have been doing some serious running around there. Bet you’re glad for your summer cut now!!;) We are going swimming today.
I’ve been feeling a little sick but now i’m feeling better and miss running and fetching- all i wanted to do was sleep (If you eat a lot of grass and it makes you sick… guess what?!?! You get people food- yep- the vet even said!) I got to eat cooked brown rice with hamburger and raw carrots; and toast with peanut butter!!!!ROOOOOOoooOOO. It’s like a BRAT Diet but it’s not like i’m really eating brats- like people don’t really eat HOT DOGS- which is really lucky for Max, cuz, you’re looking pretty warm there…. ROOOF
Woof Max,
Boy we wish we could swim in the ocean, the Ohio River is fun to swim in but we bet the ocean is the best. We just wanted to leave a bark and say we love your blog.
